A panoramic scanning dental X-ray of the upper and lower jaw is called an orthopantomagram (OPG). Two other names for it that are occasionally used as trade names are Panorex and Orthopantomagraph. It shows a half-circle that stretches from ear to ear in two dimensions, flattened out. Panoramic x-rays allow images to be taken from multiple angles to create a composite panoramic image, and the maxilla (upper jaw) and mandible (lower jaw) are visible in the viewing region. It's difficult to see the buildings that are out of frame. During your dental care, your dentist will most likely take an OPG at some point. Additionally, an OPG displays every tooth's number.
